Movie Review
Hulk
(The Incredible Cos)
directed by Ang Lee
The movie going public
has been anxiously awaiting two things: the premier of the new Hulk
movie and Corky Romano 2. The Hulk, directed by Ang Lee, is the latest
attempt by Hollywood to capitalize on the popularity of another Marvel
superhero. I was privileged enough to attend a special sneak preview
of the new movie, and I can safely say that movie fans are not going
to be disappointed.
When faced with creating this movie, one has to think the hardest
part would be creating a convincing version of the Hulk. With 99 percent
of all special effects being done with computers nowadays, you would
have thought that computers graphics would be the obvious choice in
creating the Hulk - wrong. What those of you may not have learned
from the movie trailer is the star of the new Hulk movie is Bill Cosby.
Bill's
perfectly rugged and sculpted face made him the only candidate for
this role. Casting manager Dick Guillaume said that, "the plan
from the beginning was not to use computer graphics in order to achieve
a more gritty look for the film, ala Space Camp." The green skin
effect isn't actually makeup at all but prolonged exposure to Jlo's
new perfume. The bulging muscles were actually implants from LL Cool
J's lip reduction surgery which would explain why during certain parts
of filming LL would crash the set to lick various parts of Cosby's
body.
Not only are the visuals convincing, but the acting is superb also.
Rumour has it that Cosby actually followed Oprah Winfrey around for
a month straight paying special attention while the cameras and her
makeup were off to help get into character.
Another notable in the film is the artist formerly known as "Prince",
who had to undergo extensive tanning sessions to appear white enough
to play the part of Bruce Banner.
One thing that The Hulk movie has proven is that computer graphics
aren't the only solution for creating special effects. This technique
is being utilized in other movies besides The Hulk, for instance the
upcoming block buster Cat Woman starring Arsenio Hall. |
